Advert - MDO version seemed to sound odd; sources too separated + with an unnatural timbre, maybe due to wide separation of sources. Didn't sound like a cohesive reproduction. Needing multiple devices + speakers! Found the closer speakers annoying. Disliked the difference in quality between speakers. Wouldn't quite work for background music, but for dedicated listening would be good. Occasionally when a sound passed from one speaker it sounded a bit jumpy. Frequency response across speakers was noticeably different. That it was difficult to get the same experience with the music track. Music - Slightly irritating lose stereo image. It really changed based off of listening location, almost being off centre made me appreciate the system more as I could identify the speaker locations easier. Its very dependant on the location on where you are sitting. Off centre doesn't sound good Some of the smaller speaker sounds were lost i.e. Sony v Genelec speakers "Gimmicky" effects of voice behind are distracting rather than immersive. Some of the sounds behind were a bit too loud so got rid of the atmos. The use, for film/drama 10/10, not for pop music, maybe orchestra? Technically though ace. Didn't like the music example. Felt like I was actually in a recording studio mixing the sound. Felt almost like an unfinished mix coz diff sounds obviously positioned in space. Therefore felt like a gimmick when listen in a music context. I'd be interested how different it would feel for a heavy track (rap/R&B/rock) vs a light acoustic song. Music in MDO seemed like it was trying to output sound that was not designed for music. This is however down to being used to a traditional front facing listening experience for music. Unusual music experience, may have worked better with orchestral music. Narrator voice seemed to distract from the screen as it was low between the stereo pair. Rather dependent on seating position. Didn't feel natural listening to music. Each speaker is designed to have a different(??) sound - could possibly work even better using similar speakers.
